Assistive Technology Training

As a specialist in assistive technology, Lizza Perú leads workshops for educators and service providers on the use of computer technology for persons with cognitive or physical disabilities. This technology helps their clients lead independent and productive lives. Lizza also develops customized hands-on training programs for individuals with special needs, helping them acquire skills that will help them find jobs. All workshops and training programs can be presented in both Spanish and English.
Counterparts' "assistive technology" (AT) training and demonstrations of assistive solutions have taken place in the following national and international settings:

National Training:

Providing Bilingual Assistive Technology Displays in California and Illinois:
Counterparts developed assistive technology displays for the World Institute on Disability's Bridges to Employment annual conferences. These national training events connect hundreds of Latinos with disabilities to government agencies, private-sector businesses, and civic and non-profit organizations looking for good workers. Counterparts trains conference attendees in state-of-the-art assistive technologies that increase both skills and employability.

International Training:

Creating AT Cyber Cafes in Other Countries:
Partnering with host country government agencies, Counterparts has worked with information technology experts in Canada, Argentina, and Norway to develop assistive technology training centers that instruct persons with cognitive and physical challenges to use AT tools to expand their skills. These workshops, offered in both Spanish and English, have shown persons with disabilities how to increase their opportunities and become contributing members of their home communities and local workforces.
